Hase has lived a life of solitude, unable to tell anyone he was gay for most of his life. His only solace was in literature—writing poetry. Even now, at 94 years old, he continues to compose tanka. When Hase was born, homosexuality was widely viewed as an illness. Since then, societal attitudes have shifted dramatically. With the support of a compassionate care manager, Hase was eventually able to come out and continued living with quiet determination—until one day, an unexpected encounter changed everything. *Documentary
