Yuki works as a social worker supporting orphaned teenagers. He meets Wataru, who has never seen his parents, and later adopts the now 20-years-old. The two become father and son while Wataru dreams of a career in the entertainment industry, Yuki advocates gay rights.This observational documentary follows the first year of their life as a new family as they move into a small apartment in Japan — a country that upholds conservative values of family and blood-relations. Filmmaker Ryuichi Shimada documents their unconventional relationship, raising a subtle yet powerful questions on defining family in a blood-tie-focused society.
